Spielplatz

A little bit of history by Iseult

Founded by the pioneering naturists, the late Charles and Dorothy Macaskie in 1930, Spielplatz nestles comfortably on twelve acres of wooded parkland in the Hertfordshire countryside.

Uniquely, we are a residential naturist resort with 34 permanent homes and an additional 20 holiday homes which are only occupied during the April-to-September season each year.

Spielplatz has an indefinable quality of timelessness, and many visitors describe their initial visit as “almost like stepping into another dimension”. This wonderful sense of tranquillity has meant sanctuary, peace of mind, and well-being to our members and residents for so many years. Indeed, some of our members came long ago for a day visit, and have stayed for fifty years!

The grounds are rich in wildlife. Many varieties of birds call Spielplatz home, including robins, jays, cuckoos, green woodpeckers, and pheasants, to name but a few. Rabbits and squirrels scamper about in abundance, and the diminutive Muntjac deer are commonly seen grazing upon the fresh green shoots in the woodland at dusk. Foxes, too, make their homes here, but these are more difficult to spot, being shy and wary little creatures. We try to nurture hedgehogs and frogs, both of which are declining in numbers in these times of development and progress. Many of our residents have garden ponds which regularly bring in the local herons, hoping for a fish supper to take home to the family!

Although first established as a Limited Company circa 1948, Spielplatz has always been family-run, and continues today with its small Board of Directors whose members include the children and grandchildren of the founders.

Do come and visit Spielplatz. It may be just one day of your life, but then again, it could be the first day of your future lifestyle!.
